Disaster and First Responder Funds

The Foundation has funds to support our community in times of disaster and hardship. These funds are by the community, for the community. For over two decades, generous community contributions have allowed us to provide grants to first responders injured or killed in the line of duty across the capital region and to respond to the impacted areas when disaster strikes.

Community Safety Impact Fund

Overview: Violent crime affects everyone in our community. As part of our participation in SafeBR, BRAF has launched a new initiative focused on the social determinants of crime.

Our three areas of focus will include:

  • Reshaping neighborhood environments to reduce gun violence.
  • Offering alternative paths to disengaged teens and young men that connect them with school and work.
  • Preventing future disengagement from school among local children.
  • Increasing opportunity in historically low-opportunity areas with high rates of gun violence.
